a impf., referring to present time or to continued or repeated action in past time (in Hom. always the latter, Il. 24.715, al.): ταῦτα οὐκ ἂν ἐδύναντο ποιεῖν, εἰ μὴ διαίτῃ μετρίᾳ ἐχρῶντο they would not be able to do this (as they do), if they did not live an abstemious life, X. μεταυδάω [μετα- 3.] 1 To speak among, address. With dat. : πᾶσι μετηύδα Il. 15.103. Cf. To speak among a company in address to one of them : μετηύδα: Ἀντίλοχε . . . Il. 23.569. 2 To say, speak, utter (words) among, address in words. With dat. : ἔπεʼ Ἀργείοισι μετηύδα Il. 2.109. Cf.
