On the following day, Caesar attacked and took the fort that the king had built in the nearest village not far distant from his own stronghold and joined to the its fortification by means of outworks so as to hold onto the village. Caesar used all of his forces, not because he thought it would be difficult to accomplish this by using a smaller number of soldiers, but so that, with the Alexandrians thoroughly unnerved by that victory, he could attack the king's stronghold directly.
