A). give in adoption, ὑόν τινι Pl. Lg. 878a ; τὸν παῖδα εἰς τὸν οῖκόν τινος D. 43.15 ; τοὺς σφετέρους παῖδας εἰς ἑτέρους οἴκους εἰσποιοῦσιν Is. 10.17 (but the same phrase is used of a father who begets, Id. 6.22 ); εἰ. τινὰ εἰς τὰ χρήματά τινος make him heir to the property, Id. 10.12 , cf. 16 , 17 , etc.; εἰ. σαυτὸν Ἄμμωνι, of Alexander, Plu. Alex. 50 : metaph.,[ἡπαντάρβη] πᾶν τὸ ἐγγὺς ἐσποιεῖ αὑτῇ attracts, Philostr. VA 3.46 :— Med., adopt as one's son, D. 44.34 , Ph. 2.86 , D.C. 44.5 :— Pass., εἰσποιηθῆναι πρός τινα to be adopted into his family, D. 44.27 ; ἐπὶ τὸ ὄνομά τινος ib. 36 .
2). generally, εἰ. τινὰς εἰς λῃτουργίαν bring new persons into the public service, Id. 20.19 , 20 ; τῶν πραττομένων εἰσεποίει κοινωνὸν αὑτόν forced himself in as partaker, Din. 1.32 ; εἰ. ἐγκώμιον εἰς τὴν ἱστορίαν introduce panegyric into history, Luc. Hist.Conscr. 9 ; εἰ. ἑαυτὸν εἰς δύναμίν τινος thrust himself into another's authority, Plu. Pomp. 16 ; εἰ. Ἡσιόδῳ Θεογονίαν father it on him, Paus. 9.27.2 .
3). τὸ τάχος [τὴν τίγριν] ἐς. τοῖς ἀνέμοις adopts into the family of winds, i.e. makes it as swift as the winds, Philostr. VA 3.48 .
II). Med., interuene, meddle in an affair, CPHerm. 6.10 (iii A.D.).
