And John, looking upon the body, said to the venomous beast: Get thee away from him that is to be a servant of Jesus Christ; and stood up and prayed over him thus: O God whose name is glorified by us, as of right: O God who subduest every injurious force: O God whose will is accomplished, who alway hearest us: now also let thy gift be accomplished in this young man; and if there be any dispensation to be wrought through him, manifest it unto us when he is raised up. And straightway the young man rose up, and for a whole hour kept silence.

But when he came to his right senses, John asked of him

about his entry into the sepulchre, what it meant, and learning from him that which Andronicus had told him, namely, that he was enamoured of Drusiana, John inquired of him again if he had fulfilled his foul intent, to insult a body full of holiness. And he answered him: How could I accomplish it when this fearful beast struck down Fortunatus at a blow in my sight: and rightly, since he encouraged my frenzy, when I was already cured of that unreasonable and horrible madness: but me it stopped with affright, and brought me to that plight in which ye saw me before I arose. And another thing yet more wondrous I will tell thee, which yet went nigh to slay and was within a little of making me a corpse. When my soul was stirred up with folly and the uncontrollable malady was troubling me, and I had now torn away the grave-clothes in which she was clad, and I had then come out of the grave and laid them as thou seest, I went again to my unholy work: and I saw a beautiful youth covering her with his mantle, and from his eyes sparks of light came forth unto her eyes; and he uttered words to me, saying: Callimachus, die that thou mayest live. Now who he was I knew not, O servant of God; but that now thou hast appeared here, I recognize that he was an angel of God, that I know well; and this I know of a truth that it is a true God that is proclaimed by thee, and of it I am persuaded. But I beseech thee, be not slack to deliver me from this calamity and this fearful crime, and to present me unto thy God as a man deceived with a shameful and foul deceit. Beseeching help therefore of thee, I take hold on thy feet. I would become one of them that hope in Christ, that the voice may prove true which said to me, Die that thou mayest live’: and that voice hath also fulfilled its effect, for he is dead, that faithless, disorderly, godless one, and I have been raised by thee, I who will be faithful, God-fearing, knowing the truth, which I entreat thee may be shown me by thee.

And John, filled with great gladness and perceiving the whole spectacle of the salvation of man, said: What thy power is, Lord Jesu Christ, I know not, bewildered as I am at thy much compassion and boundless long-suffering. O what a greatness that came down into bondage! O unspeakable liberty brought into slavery by us! O incomprehensible glory that is come unto us! thou that hast kept the dead tabernacle safe from insult; that hast redeemed the man that stained himself with blood and chastened the soul of him that would defile the corruptible body; Father that hast had pity and compassion on the man that cared not for thee; We glorify thee, and praise and bless and thank thy great goodness and long-suffering, O holy Jesu, for thou only art God, and none else: whose is the might that cannot be conspired against, now and world without end. Amen.

And when he had said this John took Callimachus and saluted (kissed) him, saying: Glory be to our God, my child, who hath had mercy on thee, and made me worthy to glorify his power, and thee also by a good course to depart from that thine abominable madness and drunkenness, and hath called thee unto his own rest and unto renewing of life.

But Andronicus, beholding the dead Callimachus raised, besought John, with the brethren, to raise up Drusiana also, saying: O John, let Drusiana arise and spend happily that short space (of life) which she gave up through grief about Callimachus, when she thought she had become a stumblingblock to him: and when the Lord will, he shall take her again to himself. And John without delay went unto her tomb and took her hand and said: Upon thee that art the only God do I call, the more than great, the unutterable, the incomprehensible: unto whom every power of principalities is subjected: unto whom all authority boweth: before whom all pride falleth down and keepeth silence: whom devils hearing of tremble: whom all creation perceiving keepeth its bounds. Let thy name be glorified by us, and raise up Drusiana, that Callimachus may yet more be confirmed unto thee who dispensest that which unto men is without a way and impossible, but to thee only possible, even salvation and resurrection: and that Drusiana may now come forth in peace, having about her not any the least hindrance now that the young man is turned unto theein her course toward thee.

I 3 w 950
arose 1 w 955
And 5 w 959
another 1 w 966
thing 1 w 971

I 4 w 987
will 2 w 991

thee 2 w 999
which 3 w 1005
yet 2 w 1008
went 1 w 1012
nigh 1 w 1016
to 12 w 1018
slay 1 w 1022
and 9 w 1025
was 3 w 1028
within 1 w 1034
a 75 w 1035
little 1 w 1041
of 8 w 1043
making 1 w 1049
me 8 w 1051
a 77 w 1052
corpse 1 w 1058
When 1 w 1063
my 3 w 1065
soul 1 w 1069
was 4 w 1072
stirred 1 w 1079
up 5 w 1081
with 3 w 1085
folly 1 w 1090
and 10 w 1093
the 9 w 1096
uncontrollable 1 w 1110
malady 1 w 1116
was 5 w 1119
troubling 1 w 1128
me 9 w 1130
and 11 w 1134
I 5 w 1135
had 3 w 1138
now 2 w 1141
torn 1 w 1145
away 2 w 1149
the 10 w 1152
grave-clothes 1 w 1165
in 18 w 1167
which 4 w 1172
she 3 w 1175
was 6 w 1178
clad 1 w 1182
and 12 w 1186
I 6 w 1187
had 4 w 1190
then 1 w 1194
come 1 w 1198
out 2 w 1201
of 9 w 1203
the 13 w 1206
grave 2 w 1211
and 13 w 1214
laid 1 w 1218
them 1 w 1222
as 12 w 1224
thou 1 w 1228
seest 1 w 1233
I 7 w 1235
went 2 w 1239
again 2 w 1244
to 14 w 1246
my 4 w 1248
unholy 1 w 1254
work 1 w 1258
and 14 w 1262
I 8 w 1263
saw 2 w 1266
a 101 w 1267
beautiful 1 w 1276
youth 1 w 1281
covering 1 w 1289
her 3 w 1292
with 4 w 1296
his 6 w 1299
mantle 1 w 1305
and 15 w 1309
from 3 w 1313
his 7 w 1316
eyes 1 w 1320
sparks 1 w 1326
of 10 w 1328
light 2 w 1333
came 2 w 1337
forth 1 w 1342
unto 2 w 1346
her 4 w 1349
eyes 2 w 1353
and 16 w 1357
he 32 w 1359
uttered 1 w 1366
words 1 w 1371
to 16 w 1373
me 12 w 1375
saying 1 w 1382
Callimachus 1 w 1394
die 1 w 1398
that 6 w 1402
thou 2 w 1406
mayest 1 w 1412
live 1 w 1416
Now 1 w 1420
who 6 w 1423
he 33 w 1425
was 7 w 1428
I 9 w 1429
knew 1 w 1433
not 2 w 1436
O 4 w 1438
servant 2 w 1445
of 11 w 1447
God 4 w 1450
but 2 w 1454
that 7 w 1458
now 3 w 1461
thou 3 w 1465
hast 1 w 1469
appeared 1 w 1477
here 2 w 1481
I 10 w 1483
recognize 1 w 1492
that 8 w 1496
he 35 w 1498
was 8 w 1501
an 28 w 1503
angel 1 w 1508
of 12 w 1510
God 5 w 1513
that 9 w 1518
I 11 w 1519
know 1 w 1523
well 1 w 1527
and 17 w 1531
this 3 w 1535
I 12 w 1536
know 2 w 1540
of 13 w 1542
a 125 w 1543
truth 1 w 1548
that 10 w 1552
it 10 w 1554
is 19 w 1556
a 127 w 1557
true 1 w 1561
God 6 w 1564
that 11 w 1568
is 20 w 1570
proclaimed 1 w 1580
by 2 w 1582
thee 3 w 1586
and 18 w 1590
of 14 w 1592
it 11 w 1594
I 13 w 1595
am 6 w 1597
persuaded 1 w 1606
But 2 w 1610
I 14 w 1611
beseech 1 w 1618
thee 4 w 1622
be 10 w 1625
not 3 w 1628
slack 1 w 1633
to 17 w 1635
deliver 1 w 1642
me 14 w 1644
from 4 w 1648
this 4 w 1652
calamity 1 w 1660
and 19 w 1663
this 5 w 1667
fearful 2 w 1674
crime 1 w 1679
and 20 w 1683
to 18 w 1685
present 1 w 1692
me 16 w 1694
unto 3 w 1698
thy 2 w 1701
God 7 w 1704
as 16 w 1706
a 140 w 1707
man 5 w 1710
deceived 1 w 1718
with 5 w 1722
a 142 w 1723
shameful 1 w 1731
and 21 w 1734
foul 2 w 1738
deceit 1 w 1744
Beseeching 1 w 1755
help 1 w 1759
therefore 1 w 1768
of 15 w 1770
thee 5 w 1774
I 15 w 1776
take 1 w 1780
hold 1 w 1784
on 7 w 1786
thy 3 w 1789
feet 1 w 1793
I 16 w 1795
would 1 w 1800
become 1 w 1806
one 1 w 1809
of 16 w 1811
them 2 w 1815
that 12 w 1819
hope 1 w 1823
in 23 w 1825
Christ 2 w 1831
that 13 w 1836
the 20 w 1839
voice 1 w 1844
may 2 w 1847
prove 1 w 1852
true 2 w 1856
which 5 w 1861
said 2 w 1865
to 20 w 1867
me 19 w 1869
Die 1 w 1874
that 14 w 1878
thou 4 w 1882
mayest 2 w 1888
live 3 w 1892
and 22 w 1897
that 15 w 1901
voice 2 w 1906
hath 1 w 1910
also 2 w 1914
fulfilled 2 w 1923
its 1 w 1926
effect 1 w 1932
for 6 w 1936
he 43 w 1938
is 24 w 1940
dead 1 w 1944
that 16 w 1949

I 17 w 1985

thee 8 w 2088
And 6 w 2092
John 4 w 2096

Glory 1 w 2869

O 9 w 3180
John 7 w 3184
let 2 w 3188
Drusiana 3 w 3196

Upon 1 w 3436
