But his familiar friends saying these things to him did not convince him, but with shamelessness he courted her with messages; and when he learnt the insults and disgraces which she returned, he spent his life in melancholy (or better, she, when she learnt of this disgrace and insult at his hand, spent her life in heaviness). And after two days Drusiana took to her bed from heaviness, and was in a fever and said: Would that I had not now come home to my native place, I that have become an offence to a man ignorant of godliness! for if it were one who was filled with the word of God, he would not have gone to such a pitch of madness. But now (therefore) Lord, since I am become the occasion of a blow unto a soul devoid of knowledge, set me free from this chain and remove me unto thee quickly. And in the presence of John, who knew nothing at all of such a matter,

Drusiana departed out of life not wholly happy, yea, even troubled because of the spiritual hurt of the man.

But Andronicus, grieved with a secret grief, mourned in his soul, and wept openly, so that John checked him often and said to him: Upon a better hope hath Drusiana removed out of this unrighteous life. And Andronicus answered him: Yea, I am persuaded of it, O John, and I doubt not at all in regard of trust in my God: but this very thing do I hold fast, that she departed out of life pure.

And when she was carried forth, John took hold on Andronicus, and now that he knew the cause, he mourned more than Andronicus. And he kept silence, considering the provocation of the adversary, and for a space sat still. Then, the brethren being gathered there to hear what word he would speak of her that was departed, he began to say:

When the pilot that voyageth, together with them that sail with him, and the ship herself, arriveth in a calm and stormless harbour, then let him say that he is safe. And the husbandman that hath committed the seed to the earth, and toiled much in the care and protection of it, let him then take rest from his labours, when he layeth up the seed with manifold increase in his barns. Let him that enterpriseth to run in the course, then exult when he beareth home the prize. Let him that inscribeth his name for the boxing, then boast himself when he receiveth the crowns: and so in succession is it with all contests and crafts, when they do not fail in the end, but show themselves to be like that which they promised [*].

Andronicus 2 w 973

him 5 w 984
Yea 1 w 988
I 4 w 990
am 4 w 992
persuaded 1 w 1001
of 15 w 1003
it 8 w 1005
O 1 w 1007
John 3 w 1011
and 10 w 1015
I 5 w 1016
doubt 1 w 1021
not 6 w 1024
at 9 w 1026

my 2 w 1048
God 2 w 1051
but 2 w 1055
this 4 w 1059
very 1 w 1063
thing 3 w 1068
do 2 w 1070
I 6 w 1071
hold 1 w 1075
fast 1 w 1079
that 4 w 1084
she 4 w 1087
departed 2 w 1095
out 3 w 1098
of 17 w 1100
life 5 w 1104
pure 1 w 1108
And 6 w 1112
when 3 w 1116
she 5 w 1119
was 3 w 1122
carried 1 w 1129
forth 1 w 1134
John 4 w 1139
took 2 w 1143
hold 2 w 1147
on 8 w 1149
Andronicus 3 w 1159
and 11 w 1163
now 4 w 1166
that 5 w 1170
he 28 w 1172
knew 2 w 1176
the 10 w 1179
cause 2 w 1184
he 30 w 1187
mourned 2 w 1194
more 1 w 1198
than 1 w 1202
Andronicus 4 w 1212
And 9 w 1216
he 31 w 1218
kept 1 w 1222
silence 1 w 1229
considering 1 w 1241
the 11 w 1244
provocation 1 w 1255
of 18 w 1257
the 12 w 1260
adversary 1 w 1269
and 12 w 1273
for 4 w 1276
a 89 w 1277
space 1 w 1282
sat 1 w 1285
still 1 w 1290
Then 1 w 1295
the 13 w 1299
brethren 1 w 1307
being 1 w 1312
gathered 1 w 1320
there 3 w 1325
to 11 w 1327
hear 1 w 1331
what 1 w 1335
word 2 w 1339
he 39 w 1341
would 2 w 1346
speak 1 w 1351
of 19 w 1353
her 7 w 1356
that 6 w 1360
was 4 w 1363
departed 3 w 1371
he 41 w 1374
began 1 w 1379
to 12 w 1381
say 2 w 1384
When 1 w 1389
the 16 w 1392
pilot 1 w 1397
that 7 w 1401
voyageth 1 w 1409
together 1 w 1418
with 5 w 1422
them 1 w 1426
that 8 w 1430
sail 1 w 1434
with 6 w 1438
him 6 w 1441
and 13 w 1445
the 19 w 1448
ship 1 w 1452
herself 1 w 1459
arriveth 1 w 1468
in 22 w 1470
a 107 w 1471
calm 1 w 1475
and 14 w 1478
stormless 1 w 1487
harbour 1 w 1494
then 1 w 1499
let 1 w 1502
him 7 w 1505
say 3 w 1508
that 9 w 1512
he 49 w 1514
is 11 w 1516
safe 1 w 1520
And 10 w 1524
the 21 w 1527
husbandman 1 w 1537
that 10 w 1541
hath 2 w 1545
committed 1 w 1554
the 22 w 1557
seed 1 w 1561
to 15 w 1563
the 23 w 1566
earth 1 w 1571
and 16 w 1575
toiled 1 w 1581
much 1 w 1585
in 23 w 1587
the 24 w 1590
care 1 w 1594
and 17 w 1597
protection 1 w 1607
of 20 w 1609
it 12 w 1611
let 2 w 1615
him 8 w 1618
then 2 w 1622
take 1 w 1626
rest 1 w 1630
from 3 w 1634
his 9 w 1637
labours 1 w 1644
when 4 w 1649
he 56 w 1651
layeth 1 w 1657
up 1 w 1659
the 26 w 1662
seed 2 w 1666
with 7 w 1670
manifold 1 w 1678
increase 1 w 1686
in 25 w 1688
his 10 w 1691
barns 1 w 1696
Let 1 w 1700
him 9 w 1703
that 11 w 1707
enterpriseth 1 w 1719
to 17 w 1721
run 1 w 1724
in 26 w 1726
the 27 w 1729
course 1 w 1735
then 3 w 1740
exult 1 w 1745
when 5 w 1749
he 61 w 1751
beareth 1 w 1758
home 2 w 1762
the 29 w 1765
prize 1 w 1770
Let 2 w 1774
him 10 w 1777
that 12 w 1781
inscribeth 1 w 1791
his 11 w 1794
name 1 w 1798
for 5 w 1801
the 30 w 1804
boxing 1 w 1810
then 4 w 1815
boast 1 w 1820
himself 1 w 1827
when 6 w 1831
he 66 w 1833
receiveth 1 w 1842
the 32 w 1845
crowns 1 w 1851
and 18 w 1855
so 4 w 1857
in 29 w 1859
succession 1 w 1869
is 16 w 1871
it 14 w 1873
with 8 w 1877
all 3 w 1880
contests 1 w 1888
and 19 w 1891
crafts 1 w 1897
when 7 w 1902
they 1 w 1906
do 3 w 1908
not 7 w 1911
fail 1 w 1915
in 30 w 1917
the 34 w 1920
end 2 w 1923
but 3 w 1927
show 1 w 1931
themselves 1 w 1941
to 18 w 1943
be 11 w 1945
like 1 w 1949
that 13 w 1953
which 2 w 1958
they 2 w 1962
promised 1 w 1970
corrupt 1 w 1978
