Let this suffice on the subject of those who are base-born and fraudulently registered. But there are many outlandish names that have come to my ears, of beings not to be found among us and unable to exist at all as realities; and over these too, Zeus, I make very merry. Where is that famous Virtue, and Nature, and Destiny, and Chance? They are unsubstantial, empty appellations, excogitated by those dolts, the philosophers. All the same, artificial as they are, they have so imposed upon the witless that nobody is willing to do as much as sacrifice to us, knowing that though he offer ten thousand hecatombs, nevertheless Chance will effect what is fated and what has been spun for every man from the beginning. So I should like

v.5.p.437
to ask you, Zeus, if you have anywhere seen either Virtue or Nature or Destiny. I know that you too are always hearing of them in the discussions of the philosophers, unless you are deaf, so as not to be able to hear them screaming.

I still have plenty to say, but I will bring my speech to an end, for I notice that many are annoyed with me for my remarks, and are hissing, particularly those who have been touched to the quick by my frankness.

Tokens

Let 1 w 3
this 1 w 7
suffice 1 w 14
on 1 w 16
the 1 w 19
subject 1 w 26
of 1 w 28
those 1 w 33
who 1 w 36
are 1 w 39
base-born 1 w 48
and 1 w 51
fraudulently 1 w 63
registered 1 w 73
But 1 w 77
there 1 w 82
are 2 w 85
many 1 w 89
outlandish 1 w 99
names 1 w 104
that 1 w 108
have 1 w 112
come 1 w 116
to 1 w 118
my 1 w 120
ears 1 w 124
of 2 w 127
beings 1 w 133
not 1 w 136
to 2 w 138
be 2 w 140
found 1 w 145
among 1 w 150
us 1 w 152
and 3 w 155
unable 1 w 161
to 3 w 163
exist 1 w 168
at 2 w 170
all 1 w 173
as 2 w 175
realities 1 w 184
and 4 w 188
over 1 w 192
these 1 w 197
too 1 w 200
Zeus 1 w 205
I 1 w 207
make 1 w 211
very 1 w 215
merry 1 w 220
Where 1 w 226
is 5 w 228
that 2 w 232
famous 1 w 238
Virtue 1 w 244
and 5 w 248
Nature 1 w 254
and 6 w 258
Destiny 1 w 265
and 7 w 269
Chance 1 w 275
They 1 w 280
are 3 w 283
unsubstantial 1 w 296
empty 1 w 302
appellations 1 w 314
excogitated 1 w 326
by 1 w 328
those 2 w 333
dolts 1 w 338
the 4 w 342
philosophers 1 w 354
All 1 w 358
the 5 w 361
same 1 w 365
artificial 1 w 376
as 3 w 378
they 1 w 382
are 4 w 385
they 2 w 390
have 2 w 394
so 2 w 396
imposed 1 w 403
upon 1 w 407
the 8 w 410
witless 1 w 417
that 3 w 421
nobody 1 w 427
is 6 w 429
willing 1 w 436
to 5 w 438
do 2 w 440
as 4 w 442
much 1 w 446
as 5 w 448
sacrifice 1 w 457
to 6 w 459
us 4 w 461
knowing 1 w 469
that 4 w 473
though 1 w 479
he 12 w 481
offer 1 w 486
ten 1 w 489
thousand 1 w 497
hecatombs 1 w 506
nevertheless 1 w 519
Chance 2 w 526
will 2 w 531
effect 1 w 537
what 1 w 541
is 7 w 543
fated 1 w 549
and 9 w 553
what 2 w 557
has 1 w 560
been 1 w 564
spun 1 w 569
for 1 w 573
every 1 w 578
man 2 w 581
from 1 w 585
the 10 w 588
beginning 1 w 597
So 1 w 600
I 2 w 601
should 1 w 607
like 1 w 611
to 8 w 613
ask 1 w 616
you 1 w 619
Zeus 2 w 624
if 3 w 627
you 2 w 630
have 3 w 634
anywhere 1 w 642
seen 1 w 646
either 1 w 652
Virtue 2 w 658
or 3 w 660
Nature 2 w 666
or 4 w 668
Destiny 2 w 675
I 3 w 677
know 2 w 681
that 5 w 685
you 3 w 688
too 2 w 691
are 5 w 694
always 1 w 700
hearing 1 w 707
of 4 w 709
them 1 w 713
in 9 w 715
the 13 w 718
discussions 1 w 729
of 5 w 731
the 14 w 734
philosophers 2 w 746
unless 1 w 753
you 4 w 756
are 6 w 759
deaf 1 w 763
so 4 w 766
as 8 w 768
not 2 w 771
to 10 w 773
be 5 w 775
able 2 w 779
to 11 w 781
hear 2 w 785
them 2 w 789
screaming 1 w 798
I 4 w 800
still 1 w 805
have 4 w 809
plenty 1 w 815
to 12 w 817
say 1 w 820
but 1 w 824
I 5 w 825
will 3 w 829
bring 1 w 834
my 2 w 836
speech 1 w 842
to 13 w 844
an 16 w 846
end 1 w 849
for 2 w 853
I 6 w 854
notice 1 w 860
that 6 w 864
many 2 w 868
are 7 w 871
annoyed 1 w 878
with 1 w 882
me 5 w 884
for 3 w 887
my 3 w 889
remarks 1 w 896
and 10 w 900
are 8 w 903
hissing 1 w 910
particularly 1 w 923
those 3 w 928
who 2 w 931
have 5 w 935
been 2 w 939
touched 1 w 946
to 15 w 948
the 16 w 951
quick 1 w 956
by 2 w 958
my 4 w 960
frankness 1 w 969
