Klotho

What, Charon? How do you know that some pressage of business has not overtaken him? Perhaps Zeus has had to use him more than usual in matters above. He is his master, too.

Charon

Not so far as to have more than his share of control over a common servant. Certainly we have never detained him when he ought to go. But I know why it is. Down here there is nothing but asphodel and funeral libations and sacrificial cakes and offerings to the shades. All the rest is gloom and mist and darkness. But in heaven everything is radiant, and there is ambrosia in abundance, and no stint of nectar. So I imagine it is pleasanter to linger among these things. He flies from here as though he were running away from a prison. But when it is time to come down his pace is so leisurely and slow that he hardly gets here at all.

What 1 w 10
Charon 1 w 17
How 1 w 21
do 1 w 23
you 1 w 26
know 1 w 30
that 1 w 34
some 1 w 38
pressage 1 w 46
of 1 w 48
business 1 w 56
has 1 w 59
not 1 w 62
overtaken 1 w 71
him 1 w 74
Perhaps 1 w 82
Zeus 1 w 86
has 2 w 89
had 1 w 92
to 1 w 94
use 1 w 97
him 2 w 100
more 1 w 104
than 1 w 108
usual 1 w 113
in 2 w 115
matters 1 w 122
above 1 w 127
He 1 w 130
is 1 w 132
his 1 w 135
master 1 w 141
too 1 w 145
Charon 2 w 152
Not 1 w 155
so 2 w 157
far 1 w 160
as 4 w 162
to 3 w 164
have 1 w 168
more 2 w 172
than 2 w 176
his 2 w 179
share 1 w 184
of 2 w 186
control 1 w 193
over 2 w 197
a 21 w 198
common 1 w 204
servant 1 w 211
Certainly 1 w 221
we 1 w 223
have 2 w 227
never 1 w 232
detained 1 w 240
him 3 w 243
when 1 w 247
he 2 w 249
ought 1 w 254
to 4 w 256
go 1 w 258
But 1 w 262
I 1 w 263
know 2 w 267
why 1 w 270
it 1 w 272
is 4 w 274
Down 1 w 279
here 1 w 283
there 1 w 288
is 5 w 290
nothing 1 w 297
but 1 w 300
asphodel 1 w 308
and 1 w 311
funeral 1 w 318
libations 1 w 327
and 2 w 330
sacrificial 1 w 341
cakes 1 w 346
and 3 w 349
offerings 1 w 358
to 5 w 360
the 2 w 363
shades 1 w 369
All 1 w 373
the 3 w 376
rest 1 w 380
is 6 w 382
gloom 1 w 387
and 4 w 390
mist 1 w 394
and 5 w 397
darkness 1 w 405
But 2 w 409
in 7 w 411
heaven 1 w 417
everything 1 w 427
is 8 w 429
radiant 1 w 436
and 6 w 440
there 2 w 445
is 9 w 447
ambrosia 1 w 455
in 9 w 457
abundance 1 w 466
and 7 w 470
no 5 w 472
stint 1 w 477
of 4 w 479
nectar 1 w 485
So 1 w 488
I 2 w 489
imagine 1 w 496
it 2 w 498
is 10 w 500
pleasanter 1 w 510
to 6 w 512
linger 1 w 518
among 1 w 523
these 1 w 528
things 1 w 534
He 2 w 537
flies 1 w 542
from 1 w 546
here 4 w 550
as 7 w 552
though 1 w 558
he 11 w 560
were 1 w 564
running 1 w 571
away 1 w 575
from 2 w 579
a 56 w 580
prison 1 w 586
But 3 w 590
when 2 w 594
it 3 w 596
is 12 w 598
time 1 w 602
to 7 w 604
come 1 w 608
down 1 w 612
his 3 w 615
pace 1 w 619
is 14 w 621
so 4 w 623
leisurely 1 w 632
and 8 w 635
slow 1 w 639
that 2 w 643
he 13 w 645
hardly 1 w 651
gets 1 w 655
here 5 w 659
at 6 w 661
all 1 w 664
