Scarcely have I pronounced these last words, when a certain Theory (and a very sound one, too, if we can take its own word for it), which has been interrupting me all along, and doing its best to break my speech off, informs me that there is no truth - in my statements, and expresses its surprise at my assertion that gilding and mural decoration ate favourable to the display of rhetorical skill.
