Of noises, troubling the hearers, terrible, dreadful: καναχήν Il. 16.104. Cf. Il. 1.49, Il. 23.688. Of something said, calculated to trouble the hearer, out of place, unseemly: ἔπος Od. 8.409, Od. 21.169. 2 In neut. δεινόν as adv., so as to cause fear, fearfully, terribly, dreadfully: δ. δερκόμενοι Il. 3.342. νεύω (ἀνα-, ἐπι-, κατα-) 1 To make a quick inclination of the head, bend the head : ψαῦον κόρυθες νευόντων (genit. with κόρυθες, as the men bent their heads) Il. 13.133 = Il. 16.217. Of the nodding of the crest of a helmet Il. 6.470, Il. 3.337 = Il. 11.42 = Il. 15.481 = Il. 16.138 : = Od. 22.124. To bend (the head). Of persons on whom destruction has come : νεύοιεν κεφαλάς δεδμημένοι Od. 18.237. 2 To nod in token or sanction of a promise, promise, undertake, vouchsafe : ἐπʼ ὀφρύσι νεῦσεν (with his brows, bending the head forward) Il. 1.528 = Il. 17.209.
