πάλλω

3 κλήρους ἐν κυνέῃ χαλκήρεϊ πάλλον shook the lots together in a helmet, Il. 3.316, cf. Od. 10.206; πάλλεν shook the lots, Il. 3.324, 7.181; but στάντες δʼ ὅθʼ αὐτοὺς οἱ . . βραβῆς κλήροις ἔπηλαν καὶ κατέστησαν δίφρους ranged them by casting lots, S. El. 710:— Med., draw lots, ἔλαχον πολιὴν ἅλα παλλομένων I obtained the white sea when we cast lots, Il. 15.191; παλλόμενος κλήρῳ λάχον ἐνθάδʼ ἕπεσθαι 24.400, cf. Hdt. 3.128:— Pass., κλῆρος οὐκ ἐπάλλετο S. Ant. 396.

πάλλω 3 sing. aor. πῆλε Il. 6.474, Il. 16.117. Infin. πῆλαι Il. 16.142, Il. 19.389. 3 sing. aor. pass. πάλτο Il. 15.645. App. imp. pl. aor. mid. πεπάλασθε Il. 7.171. Infin. πεπαλάσθαι Od. 9.331. (For these two forms prob. πεπάλεσθε, πεπαλέσθαι should be read.) (ἀνα-, ἐκ-) 1 To shake, poise, away, brandish, wield (a spear or missile) : δοῦρε δύω πάλλων Il. 3.19. Cf. Il. 5.304, Il. 16.117, 142, Il. 22.320, etc. To dandle (a child) Il. 6.474. 2 In pass., to throb, vibrate, beat : πάλλεται ἦτορ Il. 22.452. Cf. Il. 22.461. App., to be tripped up, trip : ἐν ἀσπίδος ἄντυγι πάλτο Il. 15.645. 3 To shake (lots) together : κλήρους ἐν κυνεῃ πάλλον (πάλλομεν) Il. 3.316=Il. 23.861 : Od. 10.206. Absol., to shake the lots Il. 3.324, Il. 7.181, Il. 23.353. 4 In mid., to cast lots : κλήρῳ πεπάλασθε Il. 7.171, ἐγὼν ἔλαχον ἅλα παλλομένων (partitive genit., of us when we cast lots) Il. 15.191, τῶν μέτα (with them) παλλόμενος κλήρῳ λάχον ...
