δαίς1 δαιτός, ἡ [δαίω2.] 1 A meal (often with the notion of faring well or revelling): δαίνυ δαῖτα Il. 9.70, δαῖτα πένοντο Il. 18.558 (app. a meal for the King and his retainers, that for the ἔριθοι being mentioned below), πειθώμεθα δαιτί (i.e. to hunger) Il. 23.48. Cf. Il. 1.467, 468, 575, 579, Il. 4.259, 343, etc.: ὄφρʼ ἂν δαῖτα πτωχεύῃ (i.e. beg his bread) Od. 17.11, δαιτῶν ἀπολυμαντῆρα 220. Cf.
