AUTOB. To this Pisias replied: I am willing enough that
every woman should have her lover; but withal, it very much concerns Baccho to have a care how he entangles himself in Ismenodoras wealth; lest, while we match him with so much grandeur and magnificence, we consume him to nothing, like tin among brass. For I must tell you, it would be a hard matter for so young a stripling as he is, though he should marry a plain and ordinary woman, to keep the upper hand, like wine mixed with water. But we see her already design superiority and command; else why should she refuse so many suitors of great wealth and noble extraction that court her daily, to woo herself a mere boy, that has but newly assumed the robes of manhood and is more fit to go to school than to marry. And therefore those husbands that are wise, without any admonition, out of their own foresight, clip their wives wings themselves; that is, they prune away their riches, that prompt them to luxury and vanity, and render them inconstant and foolish. For many times, by the help of these wings, they soar out of their husbands reach and fly quite away; or if they stay at home, better it were for a man to be chained with fetters of gold, as they chain their prisoners in Ethiopia, than to be tied to the riches of a wife.

To 1 w 8
this 1 w 12
Pisias 1 w 18
replied 1 w 25
I 1 w 27
am 1 w 29
willing 1 w 36
enough 1 w 42
that 1 w 46
every 1 w 51
woman 1 w 56
should 1 w 62
have 1 w 66
her 1 w 69
lover 1 w 74
but 1 w 78
withal 1 w 84
it 2 w 87
very 2 w 91
much 1 w 95
concerns 1 w 103
Baccho 1 w 109
to 1 w 111
have 2 w 115
a 9 w 116
care 1 w 120
how 1 w 123
he 2 w 125
entangles 1 w 134
himself 1 w 141
in 2 w 143
Ismenodora 1 w 153
s 9 w 155
wealth 1 w 161
lest 1 w 166
while 1 w 172
we 2 w 174
match 1 w 179
him 2 w 182
with 2 w 186
so 1 w 188
much 2 w 192
grandeur 1 w 200
and 2 w 203
magnificence 1 w 215
we 3 w 218
consume 1 w 225
him 3 w 228
to 2 w 230
nothing 1 w 237
like 1 w 242
tin 1 w 245
among 1 w 250
brass 1 w 255
For 1 w 259
I 3 w 260
must 1 w 264
tell 1 w 268
you 1 w 271
it 4 w 274
would 1 w 279
be 1 w 281
a 20 w 282
hard 1 w 286
matter 1 w 292
for 1 w 295
so 2 w 297
young 1 w 302
a 23 w 303
stripling 1 w 312
as 3 w 314
he 3 w 316
is 3 w 318
though 1 w 325
he 4 w 327
should 2 w 333
marry 1 w 338
a 26 w 339
plain 1 w 344
and 3 w 347
ordinary 1 w 355
woman 2 w 360
to 3 w 363
keep 1 w 367
the 1 w 370
upper 1 w 375
hand 1 w 379
like 2 w 384
wine 1 w 388
mixed 1 w 393
with 3 w 397
water 1 w 402
But 1 w 406
we 4 w 408
see 1 w 411
her 2 w 414
already 1 w 421
design 1 w 427
superiority 1 w 438
and 5 w 441
command 1 w 448
else 1 w 453
why 1 w 456
should 3 w 462
she 1 w 465
refuse 1 w 471
so 3 w 473
many 1 w 477
suitors 1 w 484
of 1 w 486
great 1 w 491
wealth 2 w 497
and 7 w 500
noble 1 w 505
extraction 1 w 515
that 2 w 519
court 1 w 524
her 3 w 527
daily 1 w 532
to 5 w 535
woo 1 w 538
herself 1 w 545
a 44 w 546
mere 1 w 550
boy 1 w 553
that 3 w 558
has 1 w 561
but 2 w 564
newly 1 w 569
assumed 1 w 576
the 2 w 579
robes 1 w 584
of 2 w 586

more 1 w 602

go 1 w 609
to 7 w 611
school 1 w 617
than 1 w 621
to 8 w 623
marry 2 w 628
And 1 w 632
therefore 1 w 641
those 1 w 646
husbands 1 w 654
that 4 w 658
are 2 w 661

and 11 w 808
render 1 w 814
them 3 w 818
inconstant 1 w 828
and 12 w 831
foolish 1 w 838
For 2 w 842
many 2 w 846
times 1 w 851
by 1 w 854
the 11 w 857

of 4 w 863
these 1 w 868

they 2 w 878

out 3 w 885
of 5 w 887
their 4 w 892
husbands 2 w 900

or 11 w 924
if 2 w 926
they 3 w 930
