Now, my dear wife, I see no reason why these and the like things, which delighted us so much when she was alive, should upon remembrance of them afflict us when she is dead. But I also fear lest, while we cease from sorrowing, we should forget her; as Clymene said,

I hate the handy horned bow,
And banish youthful pastimes now;
because she would not be put in mind of her son by the exercises he had been used to. For Nature always shuns such things as are troublesome. But since our little daughter afforded all our senses the sweetest and most charming pleasure; so ought we to cherish her memory, which will conduce many waysor rather many fold more to our joy than our grief. And it is but just, that the same arguments which we have oft-times used to others should prevail upon ourselves at this so seasonable a time, and that we should not supinely sit down and overwhelm the joys which we have tasted with a multiplicity of new griefs.

Tokens

Now 1 w 3
my 1 w 6
dear 1 w 10
wife 1 w 14
I 1 w 16
see 1 w 19
no 1 w 21
reason 1 w 27
why 1 w 30
these 1 w 35
and 1 w 38
the 2 w 41
like 1 w 45
things 1 w 51
which 1 w 57
delighted 1 w 66
us 1 w 68
so 2 w 70
much 1 w 74
when 1 w 78
she 1 w 81
was 1 w 84
alive 1 w 89
should 1 w 96
upon 1 w 100
remembrance 1 w 111
of 1 w 113
them 1 w 117
afflict 1 w 124
us 2 w 126
when 2 w 130
she 2 w 133
is 1 w 135
dead 1 w 139
But 1 w 143
I 2 w 144
also 1 w 148
fear 1 w 152
lest 1 w 156
while 1 w 162
we 1 w 164
cease 1 w 169
from 1 w 173
sorrowing 1 w 182
we 2 w 185
should 2 w 191
forget 1 w 197
her 1 w 200
as 4 w 203
Clymene 1 w 210
said 1 w 214
I 3 w 216
hate 1 w 220
the 4 w 223
handy 1 w 228
horned 1 w 234
bow 1 w 237
And 1 w 241
banish 1 w 247
youthful 1 w 255
pastimes 1 w 263
now 1 w 266
because 1 w 274
she 3 w 277
would 1 w 282
not 1 w 285
be 2 w 287
put 1 w 290
in 3 w 292
mind 1 w 296
of 2 w 298
her 2 w 301
son 2 w 304
by 1 w 306
the 5 w 309
exercises 1 w 318
he 13 w 320
had 1 w 323
been 1 w 327
used 1 w 331
to 1 w 333
For 1 w 337
Nature 1 w 343
always 1 w 349
shuns 1 w 354
such 1 w 358
things 2 w 364
as 6 w 366
are 1 w 369
troublesome 1 w 380
But 2 w 384
since 1 w 389
our 1 w 392
little 1 w 398
daughter 1 w 406
afforded 1 w 414
all 1 w 417
our 2 w 420
senses 1 w 426
the 6 w 429
sweetest 1 w 437
and 3 w 440
most 1 w 444
charming 1 w 452
pleasure 1 w 460
so 7 w 463
ought 1 w 468
we 4 w 470
to 2 w 472
cherish 1 w 479
her 4 w 482
memory 1 w 488
which 2 w 494
will 1 w 498
conduce 1 w 505
many 1 w 509
ways 2 w 513
or 7 w 516
rather 1 w 522
many 2 w 526
fold 1 w 530
more 1 w 535
to 3 w 537
our 3 w 540
joy 1 w 543
than 1 w 547
our 4 w 550
grief 1 w 555
And 2 w 559
it 2 w 561
is 5 w 563
but 1 w 566
just 1 w 570
that 1 w 575
the 8 w 578
same 1 w 582
arguments 1 w 591
which 3 w 596
we 5 w 598
have 1 w 602
oft-times 1 w 611
used 2 w 615
to 4 w 617
others 1 w 623
should 3 w 629
prevail 1 w 636
upon 2 w 640
ourselves 1 w 649
at 5 w 651
this 1 w 655
so 8 w 657
seasonable 1 w 667
a 44 w 668
time 3 w 672
and 4 w 676
that 2 w 680
we 6 w 682
should 4 w 688
not 2 w 691
supinely 1 w 699
sit 1 w 702
down 1 w 706
and 5 w 709
overwhelm 1 w 718
the 10 w 721
joys 1 w 725
which 4 w 730
we 7 w 732
have 2 w 736
tasted 1 w 742
with 1 w 746
a 50 w 747
multiplicity 1 w 759
of 4 w 761
new 1 w 764
griefs 1 w 770
