διαλύω fut. -λῡσω perf. -λέλυκα Pass., aor1 -ελυθην perf. -λέλυμαι to loose one from another, to part asunder, undo, Hdt.: to dissolve an assembly, Hdt., Thuc., etc.; τὴν σκηνὴν εἰς κοίτην δ. to break up the party and go to bed, Xen.; δ. τὴν στρατιάν to disband it, Thuc.:—Pass., of an assembly, to break up, Hdt., etc.: of a man, to die, Xen. to dissolve into its elements, to break up, Plat. to put an end to friendship, break off a truce, Thuc., etc.:—so in Mid., διαλύσασθαι ξεινίην Hdt. to put an end to enmity, Thuc.; and in Mid., Dem., etc. c. acc. pers. to reconcile, τινὰ πρός τινα Dem.; οὐ γὰρ ἦν ὁ διαλύσων Thuc.:—Pass. and Mid., διαλύεσθαι νείκους to be parted from quarrel, i. e. to be reconciled, Eur., Xen., etc. generally, to put an end to, do away with, διαβολήν Thuc.; so in Mid., Thuc., etc. to solve a difficulty, Plat. δ. τιμάς to pay the full value, discharge a debt, Hdt., etc.: c. acc. pers. to pay him off, Dem. absol. to slacken oneʼs hold, undo, Theocr.
