Lat. pasce corvos! abi in malam rem! Ar. Mid. to put for oneself, ἐνὶ θυμῶι βάλλευ lay it to heart, Od.; ἐς θυμὸν βάλλεσθαί τι Hdt.; ἐφʼ ἑωυτοῦ βαλόμενος on oneʼs own judgment, of oneself, Hdt. τόξα or ξίφος ἀμφʼ ὤμοις βάλλεσθαι to throw about oneʼs shoulder, Il. ἐς γαστέρα βάλλεσθαι, of a woman, to conceive, Hdt. to lay the foundations of, begin to form, οἰκοδομίαν, στρατόπεδον, Plat., etc.; β. ἄγκυραν to cast anchor, Hdt. rarely, χρόα βάλλεσθαι λουτροῖς to dash oneʼs flesh with water, bathe, Hhymn.
