in Hom. neut. ἀχρεῖον as adv., ἀχρεῖον ἰδών giving a helpless look, looking foolish, of Thersites after being beaten, Il.; ἀχρεῖον ἐγέλασσε laughing without cause or meaning, laughed with a forced laugh, Od.; so, ἀχρεῖον κλάζειν to bark without cause, Theocr.
