ἀποτρέπω to turn one away from a thing, c. gen., Il.:— to turn away, deter or dissuade from, Thuc.; also, c. inf., ἀπ. τινὰ ποιεῖν τι Aesch., Dem. c. acc. pers. only, to turn away, turn back, Il. c. acc. rei, to turn aside, avert, prevent, Hdt., Plat.; cf. ἀποτρόπαιος, ἀπότροπος. to turn from others against one, τι ἐπί τινι Soph.:—Mid., ἀποτραπόμενος πρός τι turning away from other objects to this one, Plut.
