ἀπείργω to keep away from, debar from, τινά τινος Hom., Attic; τινὰ ἀπό τινος Hdt. to keep from doing, prevent, hinder, c. acc. et inf., ἀπ. τινὰ ποιεῖν or μὴ ποιεῖν τι Soph., Eur. c. acc. to keep back, keep off, ward off, Od., Soph., etc.; absol., ἀλλʼ ἀπείργοι θεός heaven forfend!
