to be severe, sore, grievous, like Lat. ingravescere, of storms, Hom.
mostly of persons, to be violent, sorely angry, savage, Il., Attic:—c. dat. to be angry with others, Hom., etc.; so, χ. ἐπί τινι Od.; πρός τινα Xen.:—also c. dat. pers. et rei, χ. τινὶ τοῖς εἰρημένοις to be angry with him for his words, Xen.
to provoke to anger, Arist.:—Pass. to be provoked, Xen.
in Pass. also, to be treated harshly, Plat.
