ὑπέχω fut. ὑφ-έξω aor2 ὑπέσχον poet. ὑπέσχεθον to hold or put under, ὑποσχὼν θηλέας ἵππους (cf. Virgil supposita de matre), Il.: to hold out the hand to receive something, Il., Dem.: to hold a cup under another vessel, while something is poured into it, Hdt., Ar.; ὑπ. μαστόν, of the mother giving suck, Eur. to supply, afford, furnish, Pind.; ὑπ. τινί φόβον to occasion him fear, Thuc.:— ὑπ. ἑαυτόν submit oneself to another, Xen., Plat. to uphold, support, c. acc., Hdt.
