to satisfy, delight, gladden, cheer, Hom., Hdt., Attic:—absol. to give delight, Od.; τὰ τέρποντα delights, Soph.
Pass. and Mid.,
c. gen. rei, to have full enjoyment of a thing, have enough of it, Hom.; metaph., τεταρπώμεσθα γόοιο let us take our fill of lamentation, Hom.
to enjoy oneself, make merry, c. dat. modi, φόρμιγγι, μύθοισι, etc., Hom., etc.; so, τ. ἐν θαλίῃς Od., etc.:— also c. part., τέρψει κλύων Soph.; τέρπεται τιμώμενος Eur.:—absol., πῖνε καὶ τέρπου drink and be merry, Hdt.
