the hindmost, undermost, end-most: in Hom. always of the end of the limb next the body, the root, πρυμνὸς βραχίων, πρυμνὴ γλῶσσα, etc.; so, πρυμνὴν ὕλην ἐκτάμνειν to cut off the wood at the root, Il.; δόρυ πρυμνόν the part of a spear-head where it joins the shaft, Il.; λᾶας πρυμνὸς παχύς a stone broad at base, opp. to ὕπερθεν ὀξύς (which follows), Il.; Sup. πρυμνότατος Od.:—for πρύμνη ναῦς, v. πρύμνα.
