to go or come forward, advance, πρὸς ἐμὴν χεῖρα as my hand guides thee, Soph.; of troops, Thuc.:—of Time, to go on, Xen.
metaph. of States, wars, enterprises, etc., to proceed, advance, go on, often with some word to denote a good or bad issue, εὖ προχωρῆσαι Eur.; προχωρησάντων ἐπὶ μέγα τῶν πραγμάτων Thuc.; τούτων προκεχωρηκότων ὡς ἐβούλοντο Xen.:—absol. to go on well, prosper, Hdt., etc.
impers., προχωρεῖ μοι it goes on well for me, I have success, ὡς οἱ δόλῳ οὐ προεχώρεε when he could not succeed by craft, Hdt.; c. inf., ἢν μὴ προχωρήσῃ ἀπελθεῖν if it be not possible to depart, Thuc.:—absol. in part., προκεχωρηκότων when things went on well, Xen.
