προφαίνω fut. -φανῶ aor1 -έφηνα Pass., aor2 προὐφάνην part. προφανείς 3rd pl. perf. προπέφανται to bring forth, bring to light, shew forth, manifest, display, Soph.: metaph., Ἀχιλεὺς Αἰγίναν πρ. brought it into light, made it illustrious, Pind.:—Pass. to be shewn forth, come to light, appear, Hom., Soph.; impers., οὐδὲ προὐφαίνετʼ ἰδέσθαι nor was there light enough for us to see, Od.:—aor2 pass. part. προφανείς, εῖσα, coming forward, appearing, Od. to indicate or declare before, Soph., Dem. = προτίθημι I. 5, to propose, ἆθλα Xen.
