προκόπτω fut. ψω Attic imperf. προὔκοπτον to cut away in front: hence to forward a work (the metaph. being prob. taken from pioneers), Pass. to be forwarded, to advance, prosper, Hdt. with neut. Adjs., τὰ πολλὰ προκόψασʼ having made most things ready, Eur.; τί ἂν προκόπτοις; what good would you get?
