one of the same country, a fellow-countryman, applied to barbarians who had only a common πατρίς, πολῖται being used of Greeks who had a common πόλις (or free state), Plat.; ἵπποι πατρ. Xen.; by a metaph., Mount Cithaeron is the πατριώτης of Oedipus, Soph.
