παρασκευή παρα-σκευή, ἡ, preparation, Hdt., Attic; ἐν τούτῳ παρασκευῆς in this state of preparation, Thuc.:— preparation of a speech, Xen.:—with Preps., ἐκ παρασκευῆς of set purpose, μάχη ἐγένετο ἐκ π. a pitched battle, Thuc.; so, ἀπὸ παρασκευῆς Thuc.; διʼ ὀλίγης παρασκευῆς at short notice, offhand, Thuc.; ἐν παρασκευῇ in course of preparation, Thuc. a providing, procuring, π. φίλων καὶ οὐσίας Plat. an intrigue or cabal, for the purpose of gaining a verdict or carrying a measure, Dem., etc. that which is prepared, equipage, Lat. apparatus, Plat., Xen.: an armament, Thuc., Dem. generally, power, means, Thuc. among the Jews, the day of preparation, the day before the sabbath of the Passover, NTest.
