to make to cease, to stop or hinder from a thing, c. gen., Il.; ἀν. τινά τινος to give him rest or relief from a thing, Soph., Dem.

rarely intr. in sense of Mid. to take rest, ἀναπαύοντες Thuc.; ἀνέπαυεν Xen.
