like Lat. pernicies and pestis, that which causes destruction, a pest, plague, curse, Hes.; of persons, Hdt.; so Oedipus calls himself τὸν ὄλεθρον μέγαν Soph.; ὄλ. Μακεδών, of Philip, Dem., etc.
