exclam. of pain, fright, pity, anger, grief, also of surprise, properly οἴ μοι ah me! woeʼs me! Theogn., Trag.:— οἴμοι is mostly absol., or is used with a nom., οἴμοι ἐγὼ τλάμων, οἴμοι τάλας etc., Soph.;—c. gen. causae, οἴμοι τῶν κακῶν, οἴμοι γέλωτος ah me for my misfortunes, for the laughter, Trag.
The last syll. in οἴμοι may be elided before ὡς.
