to wash another, properly, to wash his body (νίζω being used of the hands and feet, πλύνω of clothes), Hom.; λούσατε ἐν ποταμῶι bathe him, i. e. let him bathe, Od.:—also, λόʼ ἐκ τρίποδος washed me [with water] from a caldron, Od.
Mid. and Pass. to bathe, c. gen., λελουμένος ) Ὠκεανοῖο (of a star just risen), fresh from Oceanʼs bath, Il.;so, λούεσθαι ποταμοῖο to bathe [in water] of the river, Hom.; so, ἀπὸ κρήνης λούμενος Hdt.:—absol., λούσαντο Od., etc.; λελουμένος fresh-bathed, after bathing, Hdt.; ἦλθε λουσόμενος (Hor., ire lavatum), Ar.
in strict pass. sense, λοῦσθαι ὑπὸ τοῦ Διός, i. e. to be washed by the rain from heaven, Hdt.
in strict mid. sense, λοέσσασθαι χρόα to wash oneʼs body, Hes.
