to yoke, put to, ἵππους Hom., etc.; ζ. ἵππους ὑφʼ ἅρματα, ὑφʼ ἅρμασιν, ὑπʼ ὄχεσφιν, ὑπʼ ἀμάξηισιν Il.;—(so in Mid., ἵππους ζεύγνυσθαι to put to oneʼs horses, Hom.);—also of riding horses, to harness, saddle and bridle, ζεῦξαι Πάγασον Pind.:—of chariots, to put to, get ready, Hom., Eur.
to bind, bind fast, Xen.:—Pass., φάρη ἐζευγμέναι having them fastened, Eur.
metaph., πότμωι ζυγείς in the yoke of fate, Pind.; ἀνάγκηι, ὁρκίοις ζυγείς Soph., Eur.
