a prayer, vow, Od., etc.: (but the common Homeric words are εὖχος and εὐχωλή) ; εὐχὴν ἐπιτελέσαι, Lat. vota persolvere, Hdt.; ἀποδιδόναι Xen.; κατὰ χιλίων εὐχὴν ποιήσασθαι χιμάρων to make a vow of a thousand goats, Ar.
a mere wish, an aspiration, as opp. to reality, εὐχαῖς ὅμοια λέγειν to build castles in the air, Plat.
a prayer for evil, i. e. an imprecation, Aesch., Eur.
