Abst. 4.7 : abs., Plu. 2.724a : pl. in Lat. spadica ( Amm.Marc. 24.3.12 ); applied to other plants, e.g. ῥυτῆς Nic. Al. 528 ; ποΐσω ἀργυρέ[α]ν ς. Supp.Epigr. 4.61 (Centuripae, i (?) A.D., but perh. in signf. 11 ).
2). as Adj., palm-coloured, i.e. bay, only Lat. spadix, Verg. G. 3.82 , Gell. 2.26.9 .
II). a stringed instrument like the lyre, with high notes, Nicom. Harm. 4 , Poll. 4.59 ; condemned by Quintilian as effeminate, Inst. 1.10.31 .
III). rind stripped from the root of the πρῖνος, Λέξεις Ἡροδότου in Stein Herodotus ii p.469 (Berol. 1871 ), cf. Hsch. s.v. σπᾶ .
