σκανδάλ-ηθρον, τό,
A). stick in a trap on which the bait is placed, and which, when touched by the animal, springs up and shuts the trap, , 7.114 10.156 : metaph., σκανδάληθρ’ ἱστὰς ἐπῶν setting word-traps, i.e. throwing out words which one's adversary will catch at, and so be caught himself, Ach. 687 , ubi v.
