A). any jutting part of a mountain, whether upwards or forwards; hence,
1). peak, περὶ ῥίον Οὐλύμποιο Il. 8.25 , cf. 14.154 , 225 , etc.; ῥ. ὀρέων Od. 9.191 ; ῥ. οὔρεος h.Ap. 139 .
2). headland, Od. 3.295 ; hence as pr. name of several places, esp. Ῥ. Μολυκρικόν and Ῥ. Ἀχαϊκόν at the mouth of the gulf of Corinth, Th. 2.86 (cf. 84 ).
3). later, bay formed by a foreland, Ael. NA 15.3 . (Perh. akin to ῥίς, cf. Ness, Naze with nose.)
