A). = πελάζω , bring near, once in Hes., Βορέας .. δρῦς .. πιλνᾷ χθονί brings them to earth, Op. 510 ; also intr., δόμοισι πιλνᾷς thou drawest nigh to the house, h.Cer. 115 (nisi leg. πίλνασαι):—elsewh. Pass. πίλνᾰμαι (with no act. form πίλνημι), draw near to, approach, c. dat., ἅρματα χθονὶ πίλνατο the chariots went close to the ground, Il. 23.368 ; ἐπ’ οὔδει πίλναται 19.93 , cf. A.R. 4.952 , Simm. 7 : abs. with two subjects, Γαῖα καὶ Οὐρανὸς πίλνατο earth and sky threatened to encounter (in the storm), Hes. Th. 703 :—πίτναντο must be read for πίλναντο with Aristarch. and some codd. in Il. 22.402 ; conversely πίλναντο for πίτναντο in Euph. 63.2 .
