A). girdle worn round the loins, PRev.Laws 94.7 (iii B. C.), Plu. Rom. 21 (in form περί-ζωσμα), Poll. 7.65 , etc.; worn by athletes, Paus. 1.44.1 ; by priests, Plu. Aem. 33 ; by smiths, Arr. Epict. 4.8.16 ; ἔχειν π. wear the apron, of a cook, Hegesipp.Com. 1.7 : hence οἱ λόγοι σου περιζώματος ὄζουσιν Plu. 2.182d ; ἀσκεῖν ἐκ περιζώματος practise an art with the apron on. i.e. merely with the outward appendage of an art, superficially, D.H. Din. 1 ; of soldiers, underclothing, ἐν περιζώμασιν, opp. ἐν θώραξι, Plb. 6.25.3 .
