A). any loud noise, as the din of battle, ὄ. ἄπλητος Th. 709 ; rattling of chariots, Th. 151 , 204 (both lyr.); crash of thunder, OC 1479 (lyr.); also of the flute, γλυκὺν αὐλῶν ὄ. Aj. 1202 (lyr.): pl., ὄ. κροτάλων Eleg.Fr. 17 .—The freq. Mss. reading ὀττοβέω, ὄττοβος is disproved by the metre. (Onomatop.)
