2). to be governed or administered, τίς τῶν πόλεων διὰ σὲ βέλτιον ᾤκησεν ; Pl. R. 599d , cf. 462d , 472e , 473a , 543a , al.: freq. hardly distinguishable from the Pass. (supr. A. II); σωφρόνως γε οἰκοῦσα [πόλις] εὖ ἂν οἰκοῖτο a state administered by self-control would be well governed, Id. Chrm. 162a ; ἀρετῆς, ᾗ πόλεις τε καὶ οἶκοι εὖ οἰκοῦσι X.
