A). to be a νεωκόρος, serve, tend, in Pass., Ἑστία .. ὑπὸ παρθένων νεωκορεῖται Corn. ND 28 , cf. BMus.Inscr. 481 *. 153 (Ephesus, ii A.D.).
2). ironically, sweep clean, clean out, plunder a temple, Pl. R. 574d .
3). honour with a temple, τὸν αὑτῶν σύμμαχον (sc. θεόν) J. BJ 5.9.4 .
II). metaph., keep clean and pure, νεωκορεῖν ἔρωτα cherish love in a pure heart (as in a temple), Luc. Am. 48 .
