A). rub or wipe off, ἔργον, ὃ σῇ κεφαλῇ ἀναμάξεις a deed (as if a stain), which thou wilt wipe off with or on thine own head (since it was believed that the pollution of murder was avoided by wiping the weapon on the victim's head), Od. 19.92 ; τὰ μὲν ἐμῇ κεφαλῇ ἀναμάξας φέρω Hdt. 1.155 :— Med., ἀσέβειαν δημοσία -ξασθαι Paus. 10.33.2 ; ἀναματτομένη τῷ προσώπῳ τοῦ αἵματος having [some of] the blood wiped on her face, Plu.
