ἀναμάσσω
ἀνα-μάσσω, Att. ἀνά-ττω, fut. -ξω (v. infr.): (v. μάσσω):—
A). rub or wipe off, ἔργον, ὃ σῇ κεφαλῇ ἀναμάξεις a deed (as if a stain), which thou wilt wipe off with or on thine own head (since it was believed that the pollution of murder was avoided by wiping the weapon on the victim's head), 19.92 ; τὰ μὲν ἐμῇ κεφαλῇ ἀναμάξας φέρω 1.155 :— Med., ἀσέβειαν δημοσία -ξασθαι 10.33.2 ; ἀναματτομένη τῷ προσώπῳ τοῦ αἵματος having [some of] the blood wiped on her face, Ant. 77 ; τὸ ἑτέρου κακόν 2.379 ; ψυχὴ ἀ. πάθος AJ 16.8.5 ; τοσαύτας ἀναμεμαγμένος κηλῖδας Chr. 88 .
2). receive an impression, 94a ; of the eyes, ἀ. τοὺς τύπους τῶν ὁρωμένων Epict. 2.23.3 ; ἡ ψυχὴ ἀναμάττεσθαι δύναται τοὺς τῶν αἰσθητῶν τύπους 4.3.26 ; ἀ. τὸ εἶδος de An. 137.1 .
