A). examine closely, interrogate, esp. judicially, Παυσανίαν Th. 1.95 , cf. Antipho 2.1.9 , Pl. Smp. 201e ; ἀ. τινὰ πόθεν ζῇ Diph. 32.3 ; sound a person, LXX 1 Ki. 20.12 .
2). inquire into, ἀ. τοὺς ἐργασαμένους Antipho 2.3.2 ; τὴν [αἰτίαν] Phld. Po. 994 Fr. 21 , cf. Lib. p.21 O.:— Med., ἀ. ποινὰ τίς ἔσται what remedy there shall be, Pi. P. 4.63 .
II). examine magistrates so as to prove their qualification, D. 57.66 and 70 .
2). of the magistrates, examine persons concerned in a suit, so as to prepare the matter for trial, And. 1.101 , Is. 5.32 ; ὁ ἄρχων ἀνέκρινε πᾶσιν ὑμῖν καὶ ἀνακρίνας ει<*>σήγαγεν εἰς τὸ δικαστήριον D. 48.31 , cf.
