Aristarch. preferred the v.l.
μεσσοπαλές,
quivering up to the middle (cf.
Hsch.); but it is doubtful whether -
παλές could mean
quivering, and
μεσσοπαγής is found in late Poets, as
Nonn. D. 1.233 .
