A). splendid, shining, bright, epith. of beautiful objects, ἀ. ὕδωρ Il. 2.307 , etc.; γυῖα 19.385 , cf. B. 16.103 ; μηρία Hes. Op. 337 ; ἥβης ἀ. ἄνθος Tyrt. 10.28 , cf. Thgn. l.c., B. 5.154 ; then generally, splendid, beautiful, ἄποινα Il. 1.23 ; δῶρα ib. 213 , etc.; ἔργα Od. 10.223 ; ἄλσος Il. 2.506 , cf. Pi. N. 4.20 , Simon. 13 , etc.; noble, glorious, ἀγλαόν [ἐστιν] ἀνδρὶ μάχεσθαι γῆς πέρι Callin. 1.6 .
