λῠκο-σπάς, άδος, ὁ, ἡ,
A). torn by wolves, epith. of bees, Th. 742 (because generated from corpses of oxen torn by wolves, Sch. adloc.).
II). of horses, Ἀτράκιον δἤπειτα λυκοσπάδα πῶλον ἐλαύνει Fr. 474 , where it may mean drawn by the bit (λύκος v. 1 ), cf. , or 2.641f ἀποσπασθεισαν ἀπὸ λύκου as expld. by in Theod. 1.287 , cf. l. c. (where horses bitten by wolves are said to become speedier); but οἱ λ. were a breed of horses in lower Italy, = ἵπποι αἱ Ἐνετίδες , , cf. , NA 16.24 .
