A). striking, smiting, collision, αἱ πρὸς ἀλλήλας κ., of atoms, Epicur. Nat.Herc. 1431.16 ; ἡ πρὸς ἄλληλα κ. τῶν ὅπλων Plu. Aem. 32 ; ποδὸς κρούσει χρώμενος spurring with the heel, of a rider, Id. Alex. 6 .
2). tapping or ringing of earthen vessels, to see whether they are sound: hence, generally, scrutiny, Suid.
3). metaph., of sophistical attempts to deceive, chicanery, Ar. Nu. 318 .
