κουρ-εῖον, τό,(κουρά)
A). barber's shop, the lounging-place where news and scandal were picked up, καί τοι λόγος γ’ ἦν .. πολὺς ἐπὶ τοῖσι κουρείοισι τῶν καθημένων Pl. 338 , cf. Av. 1441 ; πόλλ’ ἔμαθον ἐν τοῖσι κ. ἐγὼ ἀτ όπως καθίζων κοὐδὲ γιγνώσκειν δοκῶν , cf. 180 , 24.20 , 25.52 AP 6.307 ( ), Sammelb. 6762.2 (iii B. C.); εἰς κ. 'to my barber's bill', (v.l.); 32.20 ἐν κουρείοις ἢ μυροπωλίοις Ir. p.47 W.
II). κούρειον, proparox. (Hdn.Gr. 1.372 ), victim offered for boys and feasted on by the φράτερες at the feast κουρεῶτις, Fr. 126 , ( 6.22 κούριον codd.), IG 22.1237.28 , Inscr.Prien. 362.13 (iv B. C.).
