3). c. acc. cogn., ἰ. μέλος sound forth a strain, Call. Cer. 40 ; ἄνδρες ἐπήρατον ἴαχον ὄρθιον Sapph. Supp. 20c . 4 ;[λογίων ὁδόν] τινι proclaim it to him, Ar. Eq. 1016 : c. acc.pers., sound one's praises, ἴαχον Ἀπόλλω were sounding his praises, Id. Av. 772 ; με Νεμέα ἴαχεν ἀθλοφόρον Epigr.Gr. 932 a.— Ep. only 3 sg. and pl. impf. and part.: pres. ἰάχει E. El. 707 : pf. only in part. of the compd. ἀμφιαχυῖα (q. v.): ἰαχέω (q. v.) is commoner in Att. Poets.(vιvάχω, cf. Od. 4.454 , al.; when v is observed ι is short and the sense pres. or impf.; when a preceding vowel is elided ι is long and the sense aor., as in μεγάλ’ ἴαχε Il. 1.482 , al.: hence in the latter places μεγάλα vvάχε etc.(καὶ εὔαχε (ἔvvαχε) in 20.62 , ἐν πρώτοισι vαχών in 19.424 ) is prob. cj.: -ᾰ-, exc. in impf. ῐᾱχον ( v.l. ἴακχον ) Ar.
