A). of good or noble sire, of noble family, of persons, used by Trag. in lyr., S. El. 162 , E. Alc. 920 (anap.), Hipp. 152 , etc.; εὐ. οἶκοι Id. Ion 1073 : also in later Prose, Muson. Fr. 13 B p.69 H.
II). Εὐ.,, at Athens, the old aristocracy, opp. ἀγροῖκοι (or γεωμόροι Plu. Thes. 25 ) and δημιουργοί, Arist. Ath. 13.2 , cf. Scol. 14 , Isoc. 16.25 , X. Smp. 8.40 ; πένητας Εὐπατρίδας οὐδεὶς ὁρᾷ Alex. 90.3 ; but τὰ τῶν Εὐ. πάτρια sacred traditions of the Eup., Ath. 9.410a and ἐξηγητὴς ἐξ Εὐ. IG 3.267 , 1335 , refer to a particular family of that name.
